A tip on avoiding using cell phone while driving - Lowell Sun

Thank you for your editorial “Time to put away cellphones in cars.”

We frequently see drivers on Route 2 going at speed, around curves, holding a phone in front of their faces and recently we were nearly run off the road by one that veered into our lane.

I don’t know about all types of phones, but iPhones have a “do not disturb” setting” which senses the phone is in a moving car and rather than ringing, sends a message back to the effect: “I am driving and will return your call when I stop.”

Then all the driver needs to do is look at the phone when he or she stops and they will see the call there. I hope those who can do so will use this feature.

I used to commute from Lowell to Worcester and driving is a nice time to be alone with your thoughts or to listen to the news or music on the radio. We don’t need to be at everyone’s beck and call all the time.
