Several people who were in the area, including Gant’s girlfriend, heard the shooting but did not see what occurred, police said.
Detectives then obtained security camera footage from the apartment that shows Gant and Williams meeting in the parking lot by building 17 in broad daylight, according to the affidavit.
The two speak for several minutes before exchanging items, investigators said. Williams is then seen pulling out a handgun, pointing it at the victim and firing twice before running away, the affidavit states.
Investigators said another man was also seen on security camera footage taking evidence from the scene. When the detectives found that man, he said that a resident of the complex told him that his son shot the victim.
The man did not know the name of the suspect’s father, but pointed police in his direction. Investigators later found and identified a vehicle belonging to William’s father.
A few days later, police looked through Gant’s cell phone and discovered that he had arranged to meet with Williams. Police checked Williams’ call logs and found that he had called his father after the shooting.
