BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) Burlington Police say a phone scammer is impersonating one of their officers.
Authorities say the caller is using the name Sergeant Jason Lawson, has a heavy southern accent and claims call recipients have outstanding legal paperwork.
Police say they do have a Sergeant Jason Lawson, but he is not making the calls. They say if you get a call claiming to be the police, to be skeptical and ask for a call back number. They say be especially wary if any person asks for money.
