BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) Burlington Police say if you get a call from them, be skeptical. Even ask for a call back number, hang up and dial that number. That's because a scammer is impersonating one of their officers.
We're told while they do have a Sergeant Jason Lawson, he is not making the phone calls.
They say the caller has a heavy southern accent and says you have outstanding legal paperwork.
Be especially wary if the person asks for money.
While police say they may call about ongoing investigations, they won't ask you for money to get out a legal process.
